Japanese women, from their earliest childhood to the twilight of their lives, seem burdened by a whole range of societal injunctions and rigid, highly standardized role assignments. Observing their journeys from the home to the demanding workplace, I was troubled by the apparent deprivation of their right to self-determination, and it was clear to me that their true essence, their true "colors" were overshadowed by the weight of social and cultural pressure.

Les femmes japonaises, depuis leur tendre enfance jusqu'au crépuscule de leur vie, semblent accablées par une série d'injonctions sociétales et l'assignation à jouer des rôles rigides très normés. Observateur de leurs parcours, du foyer au lieu de travail exigeant, j'ai été troublé par l'apparente privation de leur droit à disposer d'elles-mêmes et il m'a paru évident que leur véritable essence, leurs "couleurs" authentiques étaient éclipsées par le poids de la pression sociétale et culturelle.
